Power Wheels Face Lift

Gave an old Power Wheels of ours a new facelift!  Used black, pink and silver spray paint and ordered the pink Batman stickers on Amazon.  Lots of fun and less than 30$.

Kids Kitchenette!

I saw a bunch of cute ideas on how to transform former nightstands, entertainment centers, desks, etc into kids play kitchens.  My mother-in-law had an old entertainment center so I decided to attempt some creativity.  I used some left over wood pieces I had lying around to make the top shelf and face of the microwave.  The stove burners are made out of rubber coasters.  The sink is made from a 13' drip pan and a old sink faucet which no longer worked.  The back (or kitchen wall) is made of dry-erase board spray painted green.  There are a number of other great ideas on HGTV and DIY Network's website.

Train Table!

So for my son's third birthday I decided to make him a train table. I thought it would be neat to have since they are usually overpriced and typically very small. I wanted to create a table with some sort of storage which was hard to find plans for - so, instead I made my own. This was the first "free-style" woodworking I have done and It was more time consuming than I thought. The table itself was not difficult to make, but deciding sizes and how I wanted to do it was a good learning experience. The table is a little larger measuring 2.5ft x 5 ft. Here's what I used:

(3) 1x3 boards @ 6ft
(1) 3/4INx4ftx8ft MDF
(2) square table legs
(2) angle bracket/top plate for table leg
"L" shaped corner brackets (in lieu of a Kreg Jig)
Square self tapping wood screws
sandpaper
spray paint and wood crafting paint
wood filler

Tools:
Skil Saw (or jig saw) (a Skil saw will probably give you a more precise cut)
Hand or electric palm sander
drill
measuring tape
chalk line reel hand tool (if desired)
Kreg Jig (if desired)

I used the MDF to cut all the pieces for the table to include the table top and the 5 pieces used for the storage area. (2 sides, 1 bottom, 2 face pieces, painted blue). I used the 1x3s for the perimeter side lips (painted red). For the red perimeter lips I used wood filler to ensure there were no holes or viewable slits where the wood and table top met.

Here is the final product:

Welcome and hello.

Hi all!  In the last couple of months I've found a new love and hobby..woodworking.  I am a full-time wife, mom, worker, student among other things.  I was never into Pinterest or other craft sites until I completed an anniversary gift.  This idea was completely by accident.  My husband and I decided we were going to sell our rental home.  Upon making this decision this left us with little disposable income after two mortgages on the first of every month.  Our 5th anniversary was rolling around and it was our "real" first milestone for me.  I wanted something traditional (5 years is wood) and decided to make something.  I started looking online and couldn't find anything I liked.

I decided to check out Ana White's wonderful website (ana-white.com) and found a corner cabinet I loved.  Out of the blue I was determined to make this.  It was quite pretentious of me considering I had never put anything together outside of the occasional store bought book shelf and had never touched a saw in my life.  Nevertheless, it cost $100 to make and came out wonderful.  After doing this I realized how much joy this brought to me.  I have created this blog to share the projects I've made (and future ones).  Hopefully I can help to inspire others and continue to inspire myself.

Here was the completed project:
